GENEALOGY CLASS - USING FAMILY SEARCH
The Goochland County Historical Society and FamilySearch.org are sponsoring a talk on using the database at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at the Goochland Library. The talk will be given by a member of the FamilySearch.org team and will cover how to access the database, what is in it, how to find ancestors, and the use of the Wiki feature. The talk is free but anyone who would like to attend is asked to call the Historical Society at (804) 556-3966 or sign up here to register and ensure a chair at this popular talk.
2019 CEMETERY BOOK
The Third Edition of the Cemetery Book is almost here. We are taking pre-orders now for the 2019 Cemetery Book. This edition features 9,344 names and 361 cemeteries and grave sites. There are 17 new cemeteries found since the last edition that was published in 2013! Place your order today, we expect this to sell well and we don’t want you to be left out!
AUGUST LIBRARY EXHIBIT
For the month of August, the Society will have a World War II exhibit at that Goochland Branch of the Pamunkey Regional Library. It will feature pictures and personal items of soldiers who served during WWII from Goochland. Please take a moment and stop by the library to see the exhibit and remember those who served to protect us. The address of the library is: 3075 River Rd W, Goochland, VA 23063
BOOK TALK - RITA DANDRIDGE
Goochland County Historical Society and Goochland County Parks and Recreation present a book talk and signing with Rita B. Dandridge. Ms. Dandridge is a Professor of Languages and Literature at Virginia State University and has edited The Collected Essays of Josephine J. Turpin Washington. Josephine J. Turpin Washington was a newspaper journalist, teacher and social reformer whose work helps to draw attention to the continuing struggle for equality.
The event will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Central High Cultural and Educational Complex, 2748 Dogtown Rd, Goochland, VA 23063.
